Enclosures for Diesel Battery Chargers
Custom Enclosure Example
The photo above shows a custom system inside a sound shield. Batteries are located behind the engine. A panel blocks the view of the batteries. The panel is used to duct cool air over the batteries to avoid overheating them.
A fan on the right side blows cool air into the enclosure, some of which goes over the batteries.
As shown, there are lift rings for deployment via a helicopter. There are also standard forklift channels in the bottom of the unit.
The EnerMatic Controller is on the far wall, right hand side. The shunts for current measurment are located on an internal panel at the right front.
The fuel pump and fuel filter are located at the bottom of the panel.
A drip pan is located beneath the engine. It slides out for cleaning. The drip pan is not shown in the photo.
Wiring consists of the two serial ports from the EnerMatic Controller, two wires to meaurure fuel tank level, and power/ground wires to the external electronic package. All wires exit through a metal conduit on the right side of the enclosure.
Fuel supply hose and the fuel return hose from the engine are routed through a separate conduit tube on the right.
Shown across the top of the unit is an intake silencer and air cleaner. The air cleaner is directly in front of the fan, drawing cool air instead of hotter air neared the engine.
A muffler is enclosed by the box on the left side of the unit. The muffler box is thermally and sound insulted. Exhaust exits at the left rear of the muffler box.
A top cover securely bolts to the enclosure, and overhangs enough to shed water. The top cover must be taken off to be able to remove the center panel.
System and Enclosure Integration
An enclosure doesn't need to be as special as the one shown above. It could be as simple as a used shipping container that we outfit with fuel tanks, batteries and a diesel battery charger.
Such a unit can be compartmentalized with thermal and/or sound insulation. We can add DC operated air conditioning for cooling, or diesel furnaces for heating. Extended intake and exhaust air tubes can be added for mountain top applications where snow levels are deep. Solar panels or wind generators can also be integrated.
