Multiple Shunt Installation

Postby Gary on Wed Jan 19, 2011 3:49 pm

I currently have a shunt on the negative line close to the negative distribution post for an Emon and V2 regulator. I’ve just installed an inverter/charger that wants a battery monitoring kit installed for better battery management. The kit requires a shunt to be installed in the same vicinity as the existing shunt. If I install a second shunt within close proximity to the existing Ample Power system shunt will this yield a problem?

Thx, Gary

If they use the same shunt, 50 mV at 400 Amps, you can use one shunt. Otherwise, connect them in series.

Thanks for the response. Their shunt is a 50mV at "500amps" and I have emailed them for compatibility with the established Ample Power 400amp unit. Regards, Gary

You'll have to wire the shunts in series.
