Disconnect current 12v system

Postby NNeal on Wed Mar 19, 2014 2:25 pm

The 12v system in our rv was installed by PowerTap in Aug 1995.
This is a list of the components:

HEHR Power line alternator (124/105 amp)
NEXTSTEP Regulator (serial #500)
3 8D gell cell batteries (are in same compartment as Inverter)
2500 watt TRACE inverter
Energy Monitor/Controller

Batteries are worn out and we cannot afford to replace. Is it possible to bypass complete system and install a good quality
converter?

Are you considering operating from an AC-DC Converter instead of the batteries? That would mean a continuous connection to AC power.

You could leave the batteries connected and add a PSC-55 power supply charger in the system.

As a PowerTap customer, you will receive a good discount.

Thank you for the fast reply. Hope we are not repeating. We have a good charger in our TRACE inverter. The 3 8D's are 22 years old and bulging in six directions. One battery post has popped out of battery (on now disconnected battery) and a post on a second battery is on it's way out. We need to remove the three batteries. We don't want to damage anything in the system by using an RV 110 to 12v converter. Thanks again for your help.

As long as the converter doesn't pass along transients, it should be OK.
