1021-A Regulator Temp Sensor

Postby Pmoore on Fri Feb 03, 2012 11:27 pm

I am the proud owner of a Ample Power 1021-A regulator. It has covered nearly 40,000 cruising miles over the past 20 years. Thank you for an excellent product!

Recently I went to replace the battery bank. While putting it all back together I found that the sensor on the ground side had the wire hanging loose. I suspect that over the years it got bent one too many times, and the wire failed where it entered the epoxy.

What is the result of running the engine in the present situation?

The temp sensors for the #1021 regulators are #1018. They have a single wire, and are attached to the positive post of the battery.

The sensor also picks up battery voltage, so without the sensor, the regulator will full-field the alternator and overcharge the batteries.

We pleased to hear that you're regulator is still working after so may miles and years. If you decide to upgrade in the future ask for an upgrade discount.
