Next-12P Regulator Field Volatage Issue

Postby RLonnzo on Fri Jan 04, 2013 7:22 am

Have a very old next-12p smart regulator. Recently the charging system stopped working. Found a shorted field wire in the system which has been corrected, but the charging system still does not work. Checked the alternator by applying battery power to the field wire and it produces power. The regulator voltage checks fine except the field wire circuit. With ignition off it reads 5V, with ignition on no engine and with engine it reads 0V. Could the short have damaged the regulator or is there another problem? Error light is off except during start up as expected.
Thanks

The MOSFETs are blown up in the field circuit.
