SAR V3

I have two SAR v3's on my boat, one is running from the main engine that has two alternators, this one seems to be working fine. The other is on a Genie type 12 generator that has a 130 amp alternator. This one is not so fine. My battery bank consists of three 8d gel ample power batteries giving a total ah of about 675 ah. I discharged the bank to 50% and attempted to charge using the Genie. This worked until it went into float leaving 135 ah remaining. I never saw the volts on the EM II go above 13.83. After reading the trouble shooting instructions I discounted the battery thermocouple for the Genie's V3. Starting the generator again I saw a rise in volts to 14.01 and a few more ah's. The dip switches are all up.
I might add that the Genie although fitted by the PO some years ago has only 3.5 hours running.
I'm zguessing that the V3 might be faulty. Can you comment?

If it's regulating at all, the SARV3 is working. Probably the EMON and the batteries are out of sync.

Can you suggest how to them on sync ?

There's a section in the Emon manual about accuracy which should explain what to do.

I think I have discovered the cause of my problem. The alternator is producing the correct voltages, but due to the length of the battery cables, I am getting ..6 volt drop between the alternator and the battery bank. The sense wire is close to the alternator on a distribution post. Do you suggest moving the sense directly to the battery positive?

Yes.

Can the sav 3 ground wire also go direct to the battery negative post? I am also getting a voltage difference between the negative distribution post and the battery negative.

Yes, the voltage that's important is the battery, not what shows up at distribution.
