Disable or bypass internal regulator

Postby GlennW on Mon Feb 29, 2016 2:34 pm

I'm installing an SAR V3. I have a 100 amp alternator that's internally regulated. The connections on the back are B+ B- D+ and W.

Is there a way to disable or bypass the regulator on this unit to use the SAR V3 for regulating the voltage to the whole system?

Thanks!

You need to bring out the two brush wires and eliminate internal connections to them. Wire one of them to ground and the other to the Smart Alternator Regulator.

Then you will have to program the current limit on the regulator so the alternator doesn't overheat.

Hi Coulomb - thanks for the quick reply. Is there a document on the site that covers how to program the current limit on the regulator?

Thanks!
