sar v3

Postby davidp on Sun Oct 11, 2009 9:47 pm

Is it possible to set the Regulator to output the max amps of the alternator. the reason i wish to do this is because the generator is turned on and off by the Xantrax battery monitor when the batteries reach 60% the generator is turned on and is then turned off at what ever level I set. The problem I am having is that as the batteries reach 80 to 85% the regulator reduces the amps to 8 amp/hrs and to bring the batteries up to 100 % i need to run the generator for 7 hours. I have "Absorbed Power" AGM batteries and they need to be charged backed to 100% every cycle. Also your manual says not to jumper the Alt Grd to the ground tab unfortunately this is how the electrican has wired up my sar v3 what problems will this cause.

David Parker.

Have you read this? You can't rely on that meter.

You can always lock the SAR V3 into the absorption setpoint so it
doesn't trip to float. That will help a little bit, but to fully charge
the batteries will still take many hours.

Which is one of the reasons we have never suggested AGM batteries be
used in a marine system. It's a ridiculous waste of fuel. You would
have been better served with liquid electrolyte batteries or gel
batteries. Neither of them needs to be fully charged every cycle.

Thanks for the info. To lock the SAR V3 into absorption setpoint do I connect the ABS input direct to the positive distribution.

Use a 3A fuse at the positive distribution end to protect the wire in case of a short.
