Bat Volt Disconnect - error, but it's ok - not charging

Postby LeighM on Wed Jan 06, 2010 1:09 am

Hi, I am getting a Bat.Volt Disconnect error (3on 1off). I have just replaced my Batteries and this has only happened since. But the volts to at Volt indicator are correct and batteries will not charge.

I have run diagnotis according to you troubleshooting guide - as follows

1 House 12.76 12.75 12.75
2 Parallel 0 0 0 NOT USED
3 On/Offf 0 11.5 11 49
4 Ground 0 0 0
5 B+ 12.8 12.74 12.58
6 Field 0.03 0.01 0.02
7 Alt Gnd 0 0 0
8 Lock - - - NOT USED
9 Bat Volts 12.76 12.74 12.65
10 T- 0 0 0
11 T+ 0 2.96 2.96
12 ABS - - - NOT USED
13 Lamp - - -

As can see Bat Volts are reading. But what is not right is Field.

I bypassed the Field direct to Battery ++ and the alternator is charging fine.

All fuses are ok.

No difference when i disconnect the T+ .

Please advise what is the problem and resolution.

Thanks in advance for you assistance.

If the connection at the regulator is OK, then it must be an internal fault.

It would have to come back here to determine that.

We have a dealer in Auckland New Zealand, BEP Marine. However, they may not be able to test the regulator you have.

Hi,
I had the same problem. Bat voltage was OK at the terminals. There is no support in Sweden anymore so I checked the first filter inductanse L3 (looks like a resistor) close to the Bat Violt terminal. You can do a resistance measurment trough that L3 component and find out if it is broken or not. You shall read max 3-10 ohm. One way to test it is to short circuit this component. Or replace, a new inductance (1mH) is 1-2 US$.

L3 gets blown open with a high voltage transient. See this URL if you have a 1-2-both switch: http://www.amplepower.com/apps/burnt_sw/index.html

The original part is 1000 uH at 14-28 Ohms.
