no control on a Next step regulator

I have a NS2 regulator on a modify yanmar regulator
It has been running fine for 3 years.
This morning while motoring to a new anchorage I notice that the voltage was to hight (14.5V).
I stop the engine and notice a burn smell
running the diagnostic on the regulator the field led is always on.

The voltage is showing battery voltage on alt grd.

I have a reading of .02 V between the field and ground on the alternator.

I am right to suspect NS2 failure. Or Should I look at a alternator failure also.

Thank you

It sounds like you've lost the alternator ground connection.

Does this problem is at the alternator or at the regulator ?

The Regulator appears to be ungrounded, but the fault can be at either end.

Try the Ample Power Gel setting.
