Hi. I have a boat with a NS2 regulator.
Is there are safe way to switch the Regulator/alternator off while the engine is running?
Can I switch on/off the ignition supply to the NS2? Would this cause any damage to the regulator or alternator?

Cheers
Blair

Switching the on/off input is the correct way. No harm will result.

If I were to use a thermostat switch mounted to the alternator, switching the ignition supply on/off, controlling the temperature of the alternator, this would be OK?

It would work, depending on thermal lag in the alternator and the set point of the thermostat.

Wouldn't it be simpler to install a hot rated alternator that doesn't need temperature control?
