No Field Voltage on NS2

Our NS2 shows no voltage at Pin 2 and doesn't power the alternator. We have voltage to Pin 1 and 4, and voltage to Pin 5 when the engine is running. There are no error lights showing. The Regulator is located in the engine box of our Hunter sailboat. Could failure be due to heat in the engine compartment? This unit was installed in Aug. 2012 as a replacement for a 1998 NS regulator, and the boat was not used in 2013.

Heat is unlikely to cause the NS2 to fail.

Do you have another charge source? What is the battery voltage?

Yes, we have a 50 amp charger operating when at the dock. Voltage is 13.2 with charger on, about 12.8 without charger. We have 4 group 31 AGM batteries, with a separate starting battery serviced by an Ample Power Eliminator. We have a 105 amp Ample Power Alternator.

The NS2 may not excite the alternator if if senses the voltage is already high enough.

Other than that, it would appear the regulator has failed. Examine the terminal blocks for any sign of high current.
