NS2 alternator is hot

Alternator is hot all the time. Engine has not been on. Alternator checked out and new brushes installed. Alternator guy said voltage regulator. When engine is running 17 volts. batteries fully charged with shore power. Alternator is still out of boat and I noticed voltage runaway. Any suggestions?

The regulator is applying field voltage all the time. What is the voltage on the Ignition input?

Where is ignition input that you need reading from? I lost power on the ns2 (no lights) and no over charging. Tested voltage at all pins, lights came on and now have voltage runaway. Started engine and volts jumped up to 16V and climbing. Disconnected pin 5. volt runaway still flashing.

Take voltage readings, relative to ground, from all pins on the two terminal blocks and post the results.

now pin 2 reads 13.48 key off. alternator is hot again. this stopped for awhile. on off is disconnected. I believe I am having trouble with this.

It appears the NS2 regulator has malfunctioned.

I would like more information before i send this unit back and buy a new one.
I found a new on off power supply. My voltage is good at idle but if rpm goes up the voltage goes up (15-16 volts)
Amps are 40 to 60.

It's good at idle because the alternator can't produce any more at that RPM.
