Battery volts readings

Postby Hoot on Wed Nov 18, 2015 8:40 am

I am getting a 3 second on, 1 sec off error indicator and a 2 sec flashing green indicator on my 2001 new regulator. When the engine starts the red light goes off after 6 or so sec ( as normal) and the 2 sec green goes on indicating bulk charge. After another 10 sec or so the red led goes to the 3 sec on, 1 off flash and the alternator no longer puts out even though the green continues to flash. AaAfter I first noticed this, I checked the 3 amp fuse and it was blown. Have replaced the fuse and have house voltage at the regulator. Is this an indicator that the regulator is bad. Do I need a new regulator?

The 3A fuse blew for a reason. If it didn't blow after replacement, then the battery voltage input is not shorted to ground.

Perhaps there was a transient that blew the fuse and took out something in the regulator. Fuses are there to keep wires from burning in case of a short. Fuses are not fast enough to protect electronics.

Odds are the regulator has been damaged.
