NS2 No field Voltage

Postby LiamD on Mon Aug 29, 2016 11:54 am

Good afternoon,
We have NS2 regulator fitted and we just updated the wiring on the engine, all wires were connected back as original but now we get no charging from Alternator. All other NS2 voltages are correct except nothing from the field pin.
We have a solid Orange LED on, no Red LED and a slow 1 on / 1 off blinking Green LED (which according to manual indicates Absorption charge). It is a single engine with start and house battery sets which starts and runs without issue but the batteries do need charging.
We have check the Float and Absorption set points and both are set to the manual requirements (1.440 and 1.360) when the engine runs these do drop down however but we suspect that is due to the lack of a field output.
Can you please suggest any other tests or reasons for this? One point to note is that the Green LED is blinking 1 on 1 off before we start the engine, is this correct?
Thank you

Please post the readings from all the terminal block pins.

These are the readings we are getting:

With Engine off and ignition key off:
PA01 - PA02 = 1.44 to 1.59V
PA01 - PA03 = 1.36 to 1.47V
PA01 - PA04 = 0.80 to 0.89V
TB1: 8 to 1 = 12.53V
TB1: 8 to 2 = 0V
TB1: 8 to 3 = 0V
TB1: 8 to 4 = 11.95V
TB1: 8 to 5 = 0V

With Engine off and ignition key on:
PA01 - PA02 = 1.51V
PA01 - PA03 = 1.41V
PA01 - PA04 = 0.86V
TB1: 8 to 1 = 12.52V
TB1: 8 to 2 = 0V
TB1: 8 to 3 = 0V
TB1: 8 to 4 = 11.95V
TB1: 8 to 5 = 12.48V

With Engine running:
PA01 - PA02 = 1.65V
PA01 - PA03 = 1.57V
PA01 - PA04 = 0.93V
TB1: 8 to 1 = 12.45V
TB1: 8 to 2 = 0V
TB1: 8 to 3 = 0V
TB1: 8 to 4 = 11.95V
TB1: 8 to 5 = 12.42V

We have no Battery temperature sensor installed and the Field LED D12 is off.

Did you do a full field test on the alternator?

Is that where you short out the field to the 12V?

You can find instructions here.

We completed the full field test as per instructions and the engine speed reduced with the voltage going up to 13.65v.

So it looks like the alternator is good, we still have no light on the Field LED.

One last test to try. Disconnect the B+ wire and after a few seconds reconnect it. Then run the engine to look for charging.

We now have a solid red led after doing that test.

Absorption still set at 1.44v and float is still at 1.36v.

Still no Field LED light.
