Hello,

I have a yanmar 3JH3CE that currently has a Hitachi 80 amp alternator with stock regulator. My mechanic recommended that I consider going to a Ample Power alternator and smart regulator. I like the idea but am worried about compromising my engine, its a small block 38hp with half inch ( or metric equivalent) belt. Does anyone have experience running the Ample Power alternators with this engine? My house battery bank is 2 8D AGMs and I expect to use 125-175 amps daily while cruising the sailboat.

Thank you
bluzzin

There are a great many Ample alternators on Yanmar engines being driven by a single belt and operating trouble free.

Use a DayCo TopCog belt and keep it adjusted.
