We're glad you found the problem. Most likely it was the stator wire intermittently contacting the case.

Being as I am trying to avoid burning up another alternator in such a short time as this one that has been repaired, could you please advise me on what the maximum ambient air temperature in the engine space should not exceed for prolonging the life of the alternator?
If need be I will add more ventilation into the engine compartment.
