Alternator running hot

Postby MollyBlossom on Mon Aug 22, 2011 6:22 am

I have your 1023 alternator and it is running very hot. I measure a case temperature of 210 def F, with 86 amps out and a battery voltage of 13.1 v. The pulley temperature is cool 165 deg and the belt is tight so there is no belt slippage. The engine room temp is 93 deg. Can the rectifiers survive at this temperature?

Yes, the rectifiers can survive that temperature.

Is the alternator mounted as normal - not turned around with the body forward of the engine?

It is in the normal position on the side of the engine with the pulley facing forward.

If your engine survives in the engine room temperature, the alternator will also.
