#4023I S Ground Terminal Clearance

Postby Gammon on Thu Jun 22, 2017 2:55 am

Hello from Australia. I have just tried to replace my Hitachi alternator with my my new 4023 I S (isolated ground) on my Yanmar 4JHAE. It appears to fit OK however the negative terminal hits the heat exchanger and will not allow me to complete the installation. Shortening the terminal will not solve the problem. My electrician has suggested we remove the aft facing ground terminal and and install it immediately above its position so that it is vertical and has some clearance around it. Would this be a satisfactory solution or is there a better alternative. I have attached a photo.
Thank you
John

The above suggestion would of course involve drilling a hole in the flat area of the casing immediately above the ground terminal.
