finding TDC

I am able to find the “T” mark on the flywheel but I am unable to find the “fan cover mark” that it aligns with to give me TDC (top dead center) in order to do a valve adjustment. The unit is;
Ample Power Genie, model G12-150 using:
Kubota (numbers off engine)
EL 300-E2-ER. code #, 1G106-00000. s/n, 5E0998.
Model # E300-ES.
The unit has 850 hours of use.

I am looking at the WSM (work shop manual) for Kubota EA300 series and the pictures/description do not match what I see on the engine.

You'll need to use a dial indicator.

Not sure how I would use a dial indicator (caliper?) to find TDC. Are you saying that the marks that the Kubota shop manual indicates are on the engine were removed and are no longer available to find TDC so that a dial indicator must be used?
