fuel shoutoff temp

Postby SteveW on Fri Nov 25, 2011 7:58 pm

In 2005 I replaced a burnt out throttle solenoid with a fuel shutoff solenoid on my 2002 Genie 150.
I was trouble shooting a problem of air in the fuel line when I noticed that the blue bodied fuel solenoid was too hot to touch after about 30 minutes of run time. In fact it had melted the type A fuel hose onto the barb on the intake side of the solenoid. The solenoid was mounted with the factory supplied modified intake pipe and hardware. On taking the solenoid to the bench I measured that it draws 1 amp at 12v and becomes uncomfortably hot to the touch (but not as hot as when mounted on the intake pipe) in 15 minutes. Is this normal?

The fuel cutoff solenoids do operate too hot to touch.

The intake manifold may be the coolest place to mount it.
