Changing the batteries

Postby stefano on Sun Oct 16, 2011 9:18 am

Hi, I have to change the batteries with the AGM type.
I've the Amplepower alternator 120A + Next Step regulator.
I think I need to adjust the absorption voltage and the timing to better fit the AGM batteries requirement.
I've tried to read the manual but I really do not understand how should I do.
Can you explain it better and give me a hand ??

In addition I've never used the temperature sensor on the batteries and on the alternator.
Do I need to use your original sensors or can I make it by myself ??
I don't have a very good feeling with your local dealer because I did not buy the new batteries from him.

Thank you for your help.

You will need the Ample Power temperature sensor.

The Next Step regulators for AGM batteries have slightly different firmware. If you set the absorption set point t0 14.3 you'll be close.

Another option is to trade-in the Next Step on an NS2. You'll get a credit of $50.00 when the Next Step is returned.

Hi Coulomb, and thank you for your reply.

I've found a table with AGM charge and float voltage (attached)

It seems that, in summer time, I'd be between 14,10 and 14,40 on charge and between 13,20 and 13,50 on float.

Do you think I can get this with my Next Step ?

How much does it cost the temperature sensor for the batteries ?

Thanks,
Stefano

Set the abs set point between 14.2 and 14.3 and it should be good.

Temp. sensors are $44.00. You can buy one here:
