SAR3 voltage adjustment

Postby Guenter on Tue Jul 17, 2012 6:17 am

I've just installed new Concorde AGM 12v batteries. Concorde recommends absorption at 14.2-14.4v and float at 13.2-13.4v.

My new SAR3 builds up absorption voltage to a max of 14.00v and floats at 13.00v. How can I adjust to the recommended voltages? The dip switches are set to Concorde AGM.

What was the battery temperature when you took those measurements?

Max voltage of 14.00 was reached after 1.5 hrs charging. Amps at that stage were 70A and the temperature was 87 which dropped to 86 15 minutes later. Max temp was reached after 45 min when it was drawing 120A and temp was 95.

Another puzzle was the charge started at Gas Charge and not Bulk Charge as I would have expected with the battery down to 12.00v. The alternator is the Ample Power 160A unit but only put out 140A initially and within 15 min dropped to 123A.

Please review this page for questions regarding battery charging.

The book "Living on 12 Volts with Ample Power" has more detailed information.
