NS2 Regulator trouble

Postby tomw on Sun May 05, 2013 12:19 am

Greetings

I have had an Ample power Alt and NS2 reg setup for a few years and all has preformed well until recently.
Batteries Lead Acid Trojans 12vdc
Absorb set @ 14.75 @ 45 minutes.
Float set @ 13.5

No problem during the Absorb phase battery, voltage climbs to at around the 14.75 and maintains for the cycle. With normal battery discharge state, Amperage output 60-70 amps and slowly tapers off.

During the float phase the bat volt does not reach the 13.5 volts. It remains at about 13.1, with < 10 amp output. With a high amp load (refrig running) it falls to 12.9 but the amp. output is following the load requirements, 35 amp for the frig.

I have no Red error lights.

Any suggestions.

Thanks Tom

That sounds like the alternator can't produce the required current.

Have you measured the field voltage when that happens?
