We purchased the wrong Ample alternator

We’ve been having a hard time determining which Ample alternator we need to replace our old Balmar 9115 on our Perkins 4-108. We are located 250 miles from our boat and the alternator was removed for testing – this has made determining the proper size challenging. After viewing the online Balmar specs for the 9115, we recently bought the 4023 with a 2” foot. It doesn’t fit. After getting measurements off the old Balmar from the shop, we now know we need an alternator with a one inch foot, a GM-style body, and a pulley that extends approximately one half inch farther from the case than the pulley on the 4023 we purchased. Is there an Ample alternator that fits these specifications? Should we have the old Balmar mailed to us and send it to you to help get a proper match? Please advise. We’d like to purchase an Ample as we have an ample next step regulator. However, we want an alternator that will fit on the engine without modification of mounts, water pump, etc.

Over the years, we've seen a lot of different alternators mounted on 4-108 engines, from small frames to large, and sheaves of different belt sizes and spacing from the front of the mounting foot.

We have the one inch foot case, but if you send in the Balmar alternator we can make sure it has the right sheave spacing.

Thanks for your reply. We're pretty sure the old Balmar is a GM-style mount . Would the Ample 1" foot case be equivalent to the GM style mount ? Also, the old Balmar has a double pulley, and we're not sure which pulley the single belt used (though I think it was the inner pulley). Can the pulley issue be resolved by looking at the old Balmar?
