Baud Rate Selection

Radio and Modem Friendly

The Baud rate is the bit rate frequency used to communicate with the PC via the serial communications port. Prior to 1995, Baud rate was fixed at 9600 Baud.

Baud rate is now selectable at the following values.

$ \bullet 19200
\bullet 9600
\bullet 4800
\bullet 2400
\bullet 1200
\bullet 600
\bullet 300
$

A selectable baud rate is useful when the EMON II is communicating with the PC using a low-speed modem, or a radio link. With radio links, power consumption is greatest when the Baud rate is highest.

When using Electro-View, be sure to select the same Baud rate on the PC as on the EMON II. The EMON II factory default is still 9600.

Communications uses eight data bits and no parity. A 16-bit checksum is attached to all messages between the PC and the EMON II.
